Countryside around Ely

Wildlife Rescue in Ely

Wildlife rescue, rehabilitation and release across Ely and the surrounding villages.

Ely sits right on the edge of the Fens, with the Great Ouse, wide skies and wetland habitat bringing a real mix of wildlife through the city and surrounding villages. Cambridgeshire WIRE cares for injured and orphaned animals from Ely and the Fenland villages around it, from waterside birds to the more familiar garden visitors.

What we do

  • Emergency care for injured wildlife, from traffic collisions to cat or dog attacks
  • Hand rearing for orphaned birds and mammals
  • Ethical, welfare led treatment from experienced carers
  • Release back into the wild close to where the animal was found, wherever possible

Every animal is treated by the same team, using the same approach, whether they’re found in Ely itself or one of the surrounding villages. Read more about how we work on our Wildlife Rehabilitation page.

Found injured wildlife nearby?

Keep it somewhere warm, dark and quiet in a secure box, don't offer food or water unless advised to, and get in touch with us as soon as you can.

Chris is the main point of contact for Cambridgeshire WIRE, with just a small team supporting her. She works with local wildlife trusts, zoos and other contacts, but always needs more help closer to home. Register your interest for your town or village.
